All of our members are EMT or EMR certified. All members are expected to maintain their skills and knowledge of emergency medicine. We hold weekly training sessions to help all members enhance their skills. Members also have the opportunity to participate in one-on-one training hours with more senior members to further their foundational skills. WFEMS also attends the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation conference annually.

WFEMS officers host optional weekly training opportunities that focus on improving key basic life support skills. These training sessions cover many high-yield topics and offer probationary members opportunities to practice hands-on skills, develop their patient assessment skills, and learn to communicate and work effectively in mock scenarios.

Full members offer a combined 20+ hours of office hours each week. During this time they are available for any probationary members to drop by and work on skills, run through scenarios, and answer any questions.

WFEMS partners with Wake Forest University School of Medicine to host a training day each semester. During this event, probationary members are divided into crews and respond to multiple simulated medical emergencies designed to reflect real-world scenarios. Training day also includes guest lectures from physicians and medical students, along with hands-on skills stations focused on strengthening core basic life support techniques.

WFEMS partners with Forsyth County Emergency Medical Services and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Full members join ride-alongs with WSFD EMS. These offer members the chance to strengthen their basic life support skills while developing relationships with other medical organizations.

WFEMS attends the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation conference annually. Here, members listen to guest lectures and learn about different approaches to emergency medicine, emerging EMS techniques, and effective strategies for managing a collegiate EMS agency.
Emergency Response Vehicles
WFEMS owns two SUV response vehicles, provided by the WFU Board of Trustees. Our main vehicle is a Chevy Tahoe given in 2017, and our second vehicle is a Ford Police Interceptor Quick Response Vehicle (QRV). Both vehicles are outfitted with emergency lights and sirens to facilitate a safe and quick response. They carry all of the equipment that we need to handle a variety of situations.
Operational Spaces
WFEMS maintains our own private quarters. These include a lounge where members gather for shift check-offs and are encouraged to relax between calls, a bunk room for off-campus members to sleep during shifts, and an equipment room that stores our equipment and training supplies.
